Did you know that more than 500 million people are now watching videos on Facebook every day? And we’re talking about videos that have been directly uploaded into Facebook. Clearly, Facebook is giving YouTube and other online video platforms a run for their money.

And what does this mean to you as an online marketer? Facebook now presents you with even more opportunities with video marketing, especially with their global video ads.

Companies have seen tremendous value and results with Facebook video ads. It could also do wonders for your business, because chances are, a lot of those 500 million people watching those videos on Facebook could be your target customers.

Whether your goal is to sell more, create a list of subscribers, or gain more followers and traffic, Facebook video ads could help you reach your target audience and provide them with compelling content that they will enjoy.

But to better reach your goals with video marketing through Facebook, you need to determine which format is best for the kind of message you’re putting out and having it fit your target audience.

The following are three of the best performing video formats on Facebook:

Information videos

Often called educational, this format has been made popular by some of the biggest names in the social media space such as BuzzFeed and Business Insider. And who could resist those mouth-watering videos from Tastemade?

Information videos are often short, usually 30 seconds to less than two minutes, and are fast-paced. Texts usually go with the video to tell the audience what you are doing. This type of video is perfect for those who are looking for quick information on certain topics or interests. Because of its short form, information videos are extremely shareable.

Graphics Interchange Format (GIF)

GIFs used to be a staple for marketers in Google+. Now this format has found its way on Facebook, thanks to a recent feature added by Facebook which allows users to post links that point to GIF files.

GIFs are usually under 10 seconds in length and play in loop or continuously and are often humorous or funny, perfect for driving a message home quickly. You don’t have to be a techie to create GIF files from existing videos. There are now lots of editing tools available online to instantly convert a video clip into GIF.

Worksafe Videos

Worksafe ads are captioned videos that display the whole story, making it ideal for those who watch without having to bother the people around them. This is ideal for those who enjoy quick videos while riding the bus or in places where there is too much noise.

Worksafe videos have been made popular by Business Insider, BuzzFeed and Vocativ.

These top three video ad formats for Facebook perform incredibly well. While each of these formats are being used by major media corporations and brands, the style of video translates well for smaller businesses too.

While these three represent the top performing ads we discovered, they certainly aren’t the only styles of video we’re seeing perform well on Facebook. However, as Facebook continues to mature as a video platform, the creators who gain reputation early on will reap the rewards of being positioned early.
