Hello, fellower SEOers!
What exactly is a landing page? Well, it’s just what it says – a page where your visitors land…as in the visitor has landed. You hear this a lot when talking about Pay Per Click (PPC). Here’s a little bit of information about landing pages and your SEO efforts.
One thing in PPC you’ll hear a lot about is how well the landing page converts. Seriously, you should be around PPC gurus when they get talking. Your head will spin and fall off. Anyways, let’s say I see an ad on the top or the right side of Google’s search results, and that ad is for discount sailboat parts. I click on it. (There’s really no such thing as “discount” and “sailboat,” but hey, a girl can dream!)
Alright, I’m taken to a page from this ad. Hence, I have “landed” on that page. If I don’t like what I see, I’ll “bounce” right off it, but that’s another post for some other day.
Now I’ve landed. On my feet. OK, bad joke. This ad has built an expectation in me, even though I should know better, that I might actually find discount sailboat parts. Here’s hoping.
So on this landing page, it talks about all the great and wonderful things I need for my boat at prices that won’t bankrupt me. Lo and behold, it’s true that such a thing exists – discount sailboat parts! Yay!
If the landing page is really, really well written, I’ll keep on reading. If not, remember – I’ll “bounce” right off it. And back to Google. Hey, if the page is really good, I’ll actually find a real bargain, and I’ll buy it. Double yay! Now we’re all happy!
And that, my wonderful Internet friends, is a fast read on landing pages.
I bet you’re wondering how SEO ties into all this. Thanks for the reminder!
After doing your keyword research, use a great keyword phrase. For this example, it’s “discount sailboat parts.” It has a high demand and low supply, which means it has a killer KEI value.
Someone wrote a very compelling description and optimized all the web page elements with the keyword phrase. It showed up high in search engine results, and caught my bargain-searching eyeballs. Now, since you cared enough to do all this search engine optimizing, the page did its part of the bargain and you know the rest of the story…I paid for something!
In Google Adwords, how well you’ve organically optimized your landing page impacts the price you pay for each keyword phrase click, so do your very best to optimize all the elements of the landing page to get a better cost per click!
